Obituary of Roman David Kluk

Please share a memory of Roman to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Roman David Kluk was born on January 18, 1953, in Scranton, Pennsylvania to Marjorie Kluk Greenwood and Roman Charles Kluk.  The family always called Roman by his middle name, “David”.

Due to an employment opportunity, David’s family moved from Pennsylvania to Ridgefield, New Jersey. While living in Ridgefield, “David” joined the Boy Scouts and attended camp. He enjoyed playing chess with his cousin Jim, bowling, fishing with his brother “Chuck”, riding his motorcycle, driving his Plymouth Duster, and listening to music, especially the Beatles. “David” went to school in Ridgefield and completed his education at Bergen County Vocational School. He obtained employment as a press tender, but later, because of illness, was not able to work in that field.

“David’s father died suddenly at age 49. At the time, his mom was completing her studies as an LPN.   Mom attended one of her high school reunions back in Iowa. It was there that she met “Art” Greenwood.  They married and lived in Clarinda. Both “Art” and mom felt “David” should be near his family and obtain the care he needed, so he came to Iowa.

For many years, “David” lived at the Willow Heights Residential Facility in Atlantic, Iowa and worked at Cass Incorporated. He enjoyed working at Cass as it gave him a sense of purpose. He loved to take the shuttle to buy various treats. He often shared his candy with other residents. David was very particular about what he wanted to buy or have others buy for him. He was also very neat; everything had its place. He could tell if his TV remote was moved and expected it to be put back exactly where he had it.

“David” often visited Clarinda on weekends to enjoy time with his family. He liked shopping at the stores in town, attending town parades, fireworks and visiting with the neighbors.

“David” leaves behind his sister Debbie (Jeff) Dirgo of Newton, NJ, sister Marjorie Anastasides of Stroudsburg, Pa, brother Tim Kluk of West Palm Beach, Fla, Sister-in-law Linda Rogala of Pompton Plains, NJ, stepsisters Edie Conrad of Troy MO, Mary Brown of Indianola, Iowa and Maggie Dorrah of Richmond, Virginia as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.

“David” is preceded in death by his mom, Marjorie Kluk Greenwood, his father Roman Charles Kluk, his stepfather Ralph Arthur “Art” Greenwood, his brothers Gerald “Jerry” Rogala and Charles “Chuck” Kluk, and sister Glenda Rae Kluk.

David will be remembered for the twinkle in his eyes when he smiled, for being kind, always helpful, talkative, he loved hugs, and adored candy.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cedar Falls Healthcare facility and the staff at St. Lacroix Hospice for their kindness, compassion, and outstanding effort to keep “David” comfortable. Thank you, Chaplain Mike and Father Mark for David’s spiritual care.
