Dale was born August 26, 1940 in Woodbine, Iowa to Burt and Marie Smith. After attending Woodbine High School, he married Shirley Decker and then join the Army to serve in the Vietnam War. Dale and Shirley had 2 children; Marie and Dale Jr., Billy and Jeanette are from a previous marriage.
Everyone knew Dale as “Granny”. He liked to ride Harleys, enjoyed auctions, deer hunting, fishing, old western shows (those especially by John Wayne), building anything out of wood, enjoyed playing pool and won several tournaments. Dale enjoyed making people laugh, he loved making his dad’s recipe and having cook outs. Every year at Christmas time he would request Marie to make him some peanut butter cookies. They were his favorite. Dale’s family was his first priority, he loved them dearly and enjoyed spending time with them.
