Darlene Wagoner
Darlene Anna (Herzberg) Wagoner was born on December 6, 1930 in Clarinda, Iowa, the twin daughter of Otto H. and Clara M. (Meyers) Herzberg. She was baptized December 28, 1930 and later confirmed May 28, 1944 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Clarinda, Iowa. She graduated from Clarinda High School.
On March 5, 1950, Clemon LaVern Wagoner and Darlene Anna Herzberg were united in marriage at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Clarinda. Darlene became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church at that time. They were blessed with six children: Kenneth, Karen, Denise, Cecil, Teresa and Alicia. Clemon and Darlene had 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
They farmed all their married life—raising cattle and hogs, milking cows, butchering chickens, and raising a large garden. Darlene was employed over the years at Loranz and Company, Sernetts, Dairy Queen, Medicap and Hy-Vee Pharmacies. Her hobbies were cooking, sewing, quilting, square dancing, singing in the church choir. She was a member of FFW and was an avid card player!
Darlene left the farm and moved to Southview Apartments and later to Westridge Quality Care and Rehab in Clarinda.
Darlene passed away Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Clarinda Regional Health Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clemon, son Cecil Wagoner, grandson Mark Janssen, and her brothers and sisters.
Darlene is survived by her children Kenneth (Vicki) Wagoner, Clarinda, Iowa, Karen (George) Janssen, Denison, Iowa, Denise (James) Chapman, Fountain, Colorado, daughter-in-law Peggy Wagoner, Omaha, Nebraska, Teresa (Ron) Pratt, New Market, Iowa, and Alicia (Tom) Geesaman, Cedar Falls, Iowa; sisters-in-law Lou Herzberg, Clarinda and Laurena Herzberg, Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Darlene was a faithful church member and was strong in her faith.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Clarinda, with Rev. Wade Brandt officiating. Interment will be at Immanuel Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, January 15, at Walker-Merrick-Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel, Clarinda.
