Beverly Buch
Beverly Ann (Bergren) Buch was born July 14, 1936 at Red Oak, Iowa to Arthur Theodore and Ethel Florence (Fast) Bergren. Bev passed away February 6, 2018 at Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Iowa.
Bev met Darwin Buch while she was attending Clarinda Jr. College and they were married on October 2, 1955 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Clarinda. Bev initially worked as a Dental Assistant for Dr. Braderick in Clarinda. Following the birth of their children she returned to work at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital in Physical Therapy. She remained at the hospital until retiring after nearly 30 years there.
Bev was notably helpful in the community through her sororities Xi Alpha Phi of Beta Sigma Phi. She volunteered many hours with local organizations and was among the first elite group of Clarinda citizens to be named as a Good Samaritan of the Year by the local paper. She opened her home to band members from around the world during the Glenn Miller Festival each year and to A’s players in need of a home for the summer. She was also supportive in numerous ways with the Clarinda A’s Baseball Team, the hospital auxiliary, and the Nodaway Valley Historical Museum. Bev was an avid card player and didn’t pass up a chance to play any type of cards. She and Darwin made a formidable Bridge team over the years. Bev was a long-time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, became the first female officer of the church, and was a member of the Joy Circle. Her years of service to the community of Clarinda will be long remembered.
Bev was also well known for her excellent cooking skills and was happiest with a crowd gathered around her kitchen table having a great time while enjoying her latest creations. Her home was very familiar to many as she entertained in the same home and around the same kitchen table in the 62 years since she was married.
She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws Henry H. and Gertrude (Wagoner) Buch; sisters and brothers-in-laws Maxine (Wayne) Campbell, Lois (Fred) Bryson; brother Duane Bergren; sister-in-law Donna Lee Buch; and nieces Sandy Moritz and Sharon Gregg.
Bev is survived by her five children: Becky Buch (Don Foster), Des Moines, Bob (Susan) Buch, Minneapolis, MN, Bonny (Chuck) Williams, Braddyville, IA, Beth (Rocky) Alexander, Clarinda, and Brent (Lilian) Buch, Ankeny, IA; grandchildren Meg and Zane Williams, Kelsey, Alyssa, and Connor Alexander, and Alex, Grace, and Nicholas Buch; step grandchildren Danielle Pearson and Kayle, Tyler and Aaron Foster; sisters-in-law Madeline Bergren, Stanton, IA, Marianne (Allen) Fann, Atlantic, IA, and Nadine (Jim) Lillie, Peoria, IL; brother-in-law Don Buch, Grimes, IA; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
