VERNON HERZBERG
Vernon Henry John Herzberg was born near Clarinda on January 31, 1925 to Harry Henry Harmon and Nellie A. (Wehmiller) Herzberg. He attended Jackson Country School and Immanuel Lutheran School.
Vernon married Louise Irene Peach on August 8, 1948 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Clarinda. He was a lifelong farmer. He spent many years building and re-building fence, tending livestock and his crops. He enjoyed collecting toy tractors, salt and pepper shakers, silhouette pictures, among other items. Vernon especially enjoyed trips with Neiharts and Prestige Club traveling without worries.
His life was filled with family and grandkids. Vernon moved to the Eiler Place in Clarinda. He spent the last several years there and enjoyed the children he met and the company of the staff and residents.
Vernon passed away Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Louise; sisters Marian Herzberg as an infant, and Ruth (Walter) Eitzen; sister-in-law Jeannie Herzberg; brother-in-law Lyle Sunderman; and great-granddaughter Isabella Hull.
He is survived by his five sons: Everett (Karen) Herzberg, Emerson, IA, Raymond (Dianna)Herzberg, Shambaugh, IA, Ronnie (Deb) Herzberg, Cambridge, NE, Keith (Kathy) Herzberg, Smithville, MO, and Kurt (Sandy) Herzberg, Clarinda, IA; brothers Victor Herzberg, Villisca, IA, Darrell (Mavis) Herzberg, Villisca, IA, Oliver (Mary Jo) Herzberg, Villisca, IA, Willard (Kay) Herzberg, Clarinda, IA, and Gerald (Judy) Herzberg, Clarinda, IA; sister Ardith Sunderman; ten grandchildren (Amy, Jodie, Becky, Carrie, Elizabeth, Mandy, Kevin, Nick, Jessica and Katelyn) twenty-one great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Vernon Herzberg, 93 of Clarinda, will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Clarinda, with interment at Immanuel Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 16, at Walker-Merrick-Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel in Clarinda. Memorials are suggested to donor's choice.
