BILL BAKER William Dean Baker was born on December 21, 1925 to Warren and Pearl (Robbins) Baker. His formative years were spent on farms around the New Market areas where he went to country schools. When he reached high school age he moved to Clarinda where he stayed with his Aunt Blanche and Uncle Marvin Hanson until his graduation in 1944. After graduation Bill Served in the Merchant Marines and the Army, being stationed in Germany until his discharge. On his return he met and married Shirley Young. They have 2 daughters, Linda Rayette and Joyce Ellen. Bill farmed his entire life and loved all that it involved. Transferring that love of land on to his wife and daughters. Preceding him in death are his parents, sister Phyllis Sunderman, brother-in-law Russell Sunderman, father and mother-in-law and numerous brother and sister-in-laws. Bill is survived by his wife Shirley of 69 years; daughters Linda (Don) Woolsey, Texas and Joyce (Dwight) Griffith, Iowa; grandsons Kevin (Pamela) Stanosheck, Texas, Kyle (Melissa) Stanosheck, Texas, Shaun (Amanda) Griffith, Georgia, Paul (Shelley) Griffith, Iowa, Matthew Griffith and partner Hank Parker, Arkansas; 13 Great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson; brother-in-law Spike (Betty) Young; sister-in-law Virginia Peterson, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A memorial celebration gathering was held Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Walker-Merrick-Wolfe Funeral Chapel, Clarinda, with military honors provided by American Legion Sergy Post #98 of Clarinda. Interment will be at Clarinda Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Shambaugh United Methodist Church or College Springs Fire Department.
