Obituary of Ricky Lee Brumfield

Ricky Lee Brumfield Age 71 passed away on October 7, 2024, at the Montgomery County Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa. Ricky was born on August 11, 1953 in Maryville Missouri to Elgin Gene and Oney Mae [Hopple] Brumfield. Rick was the second oldest of five siblings, Sharon, Ricky, Randy, Karla, and Paul. The family lived in the Gravity area where Rick attended school in Gravity, Conway and Bedford. In Ricks senior year, he joined the Navy but was later given an honorable discharge due to medical issues. He in 1987 received his GED.

In 1979, he met Deloris Ann Whipple and was married on August 26, 1982, in Bedford, Iowa. They moved shortly after this to Glenwood, Iowa, then in 1989 moved to Gravity where they have resided to this day.

Rick worked various jobs during high school. He worked at Gravity grocery store, later worked at the Gravity gas station. His favorite job was driving trucks. He hauled with several kinds of trucks, Rick did long hauls to and from California to Iowa, rock trucks and asphalt when working construction. He worked at the Clarinda Mental health and Glenwood Resource Center, and Iowa Telecom.

Rick enjoyed several hobbies, when he was younger, he loved hunting and his guns. He enjoyed fishing, puzzles of any kind, woodworking and making different things with beads. Rick and Deloris loved driving the country roads looking for mushrooms and going to auctions. They enjoyed when they got a chance to travel, their favorites being Mt. Rushmore, South Missouri and House on the Rock.

Rick served on the Gravity City Council for a couple of years and Belonged to the Gravity American Legion Post 578 and Gravity Sons of American Legion.

Rick is survived by his wife Deloris of 42 years [Gravity] Daughter Kimberly Brumfield [Des Moines] Mother Oney Brumfield [Redding], Brothers Randy [Lydia] Brumfield Gravity, Paul [Leisa Rairden] Brumfield Mt Ayr, Brother-in-law LaVern Harms [Shambaugh], Ronnie Whipple [Clarinda]. Sister-in-Law Lora [Greg] Wood [Clarinda] Linda Whipple [New Market], Tina Dornbush [Bedford]

Nieces and Nephews, Amber [Jerime] Bix, Mandy Brumfield, Adam [Beth] Brumfield, Dakota [Uwe] Stegmann, Dalton [Alexis Still] Brumfield, Tammy [Rich] Iske, Richard Jr. [Shelly] Whipple, Jon [Martha] Whipple, Chrissy [Josh] Daly, Jessica Churchill. And many great nieces and Nephews and friends.

Rick was preceded in death by Father Elgin Brumfield, Sisters Sharon and Karla Brumfield, brothers-in-Law Richard and Calvin Whipple, Mother and Father-in-law George and Marjorie Whipple, Niece Tina Hartman, Grandparents Charles and Susie Hopple, Bert and Anna Brumfield and Jack Bailey.
