Obituary of Aleta A Pakos
Aleta Alice Kaye Pakos, daughter of Barbara Lucille Pakos and Joseph Milan Pakos was born on July 30, 1957, in Council Bluffs, IA. Alice grew up in Pacific Junction, IA and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1975.
After high school, Alice married Terry Biggerstaff in the spring of 1976. The marriage was blessed with two girls, Regina in 1976 and Sarah in 1980. They made their life around the Glenwood/Pacific Junction area. Alice and Terry later divorced in the fall of 1980.
Alice gave marriage another try when falling in love with Ronald Meyers. They were united in marriage in the spring of 1982 in Glenwood, IA. Ronnie adopted Alice’s two girls, Regina and Sarah. They made their home in Glenwood, IA. They later divorced in the summer of 1986.
Alice and Terry eventually found their way back to each other. They spent many years together before finally going their separate ways.
Alice found the love of her life and life partner, Roger Hammers, in 2001. Alive and Roger lived in Clarinda, IA, for many years. In 2009, they found a country home and moved outside of Coin, IA. Alice loved the quietness of the country and the life she had made with Roger.
Alice enjoyed many jobs throughout her lifetime. She worked at the Glenwood State Hospital School, waitressing and as a store clerk. Her favorite job overall was working with the intellectually challenged kids in the Glenwood School District. It brought her much joy. Alice had some health problems later in life, which rendered her disabled from working.
Alice enjoyed spending time with family, friends and her grandchildren and gabbing on the phone. Kaleb, her grandson, loved to go out to grandma and grandpas. It was some of his best childhood memories. Alice had a deep love for music, vinyl records, and concerts. She was like a music encyclopedia. If you asked her about a song, Alice could sing all the words and tell you who it was by. She had a love of drawing and painting throughout her life. It followed her from a young age. We would be telling a lie if we said Alice didn’t like a good party. She was quite the party connoisseur.
In July 2016, Alice was diagnosed with breast cancer. Alice underwent treatment and surgery and was in remission. It was very short-lived before the breast cancer returned in the spring of 2018. She underwent a bilateral mastectomy and treatment. Alice was successful in beating her breast cancer and got to ring the cancer-free bell in 2019! What a precious gift it was!
Alice enjoyed a couple of years cancer-free before being diagnosed with liver cancer in the fall of 2021. Alice fought a hard battle with the cancer traveling throughout her body. On August 28, 2024, Alice lost that battle and succumbed to the cancer. Alice now rests peacefully, pain-free, with the Lord for the rest of her days. Alice obtained the age of 67 years and 29 days.
