Obituary of Dorlee Jean Newman
Dorlee Jean (Ranbarger) Newman was born November 28, 1924, in a house in Essex, Iowa to Homer and Stella (Briggs) Ranbarger where her father was a barber, and her mother was a homemaker. She had one brother, Johnny.
Her family moved to Bedford when she was five, where her father continued to be a barber, and she attended school. After graduating from Bedford High School, Dorlee continued her education in Maryville, MO., until she met LeRoy Newman, and they were married on December 10, 1949. They moved to a farm east of Bedford, where they lived until moving into the town of Bedford. She then worked at the Bedford National Bank for many years. In 1979, they bought a house in Clarinda where she lived until her passing. After moving to Clarinda, Dorlee began working in the Page County Treasurers office, where she worked until her retirement.
Dorlee was a piano teacher in earlier years as she loved music, reading, and puzzles. She was a daily fixture at the Lied Senior Center meal site where she picked up many friends that couldn’t drive, and they would eat, visit and play cards in the afternoon.
She passed away peacefully in her home on May 24, 2024, at the age of 99.
Dorlee was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy, her parents, Homer and Stell Ranbarger, and her brother Johnny.
She is survived by her three children, Gary, and wife Donna (Red Oak, IA), Trudy (Omaha, NE) and Colleen (Clarinda, IA), four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren along with many other family and friends.
