Obituary of Curtis John Blank

Please share a memory of Curtis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Curtis John Blank was born June 6, 1950, in Shenandoah, IA to Kenneth and Arlean (Stephens) Blank. He passed on November 3rd, 2023, at the Villisca Good Samaritan home after a long battle with heart failure.

Curtis grew up in Villisca, IA, where he attended school and often found himself mentioned in the local paper highlighting his performance in sports. Curtis was the third child of four which included Kenny, Vickie, and Bobby who also grew up in Villisca.
Curtis held many jobs throughout his life as being a farm hand, professional drywaller to many other construction jobs, including a linesman in Texas. He would say “a jack of all trades and a master of none” and may be a result of working hard but playing even harder. Heart issues slowed him down relatively early in life and, as many others, he struggled to fight off the demons and would often look for help to God through prayer as many family members and friends supported him through these tough periods.

Curtis loved all things outdoors and was a “one of a kind” outdoors man whether fishing, hunting, camping, or roaming the fields and rivers for Indian artifacts. Being around Curtis, the conversation would often gravitate towards one of these hobbies, whether talking about the size of a catfish he caught, or the rare artifact find, but when asked the question of where, well, you know the answer. Anyone listening would have sensed the energy or passion he had towards the outdoors in telling these stories, and every year the size of the fish or whitetail buck kept getting bigger.

After years of playing hard, Curtis was all about his boys and especially his grandkids. The conversations were no longer about his hobbies but shifted and were now focused on what his kids were doing and telling stories about them and his grandkids. He made it a priority to spend time with his family, even if it involved a little travel or gathering at a common location.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth & Arlean Blank of Villisca IA and brother-in-law Dick Cosaert of Beebeetown IA.

Curtis is survived by his sons: Brice (Tricia) Blank of Conroe, TX. and Brian (Penni) Blank of Gardner, KS. and John Dozier of Shenandoah, IA. and Jonathan Scott White of Kearney, NE: brother, Kenny (Mary) Blank of Cincinnati Iowa; sister Vickie Coseart of Beebeetown IA; brother Bob (Teri) Blank of Villisca IA; grandchildren Triston, Gavin, Haeleigh, Kiera, Ryan, Sarah, Michael, Matthew, Makenzie, Brecken, Brandon, Damon, Brianna and Atreyu; Great grandchildren Aiden, Naomi and Emma.
