Obituary of Deloris Elaine Beery

Deloris Elaine Beery, 82 of Clarinda, IA, peacefully passed away on Sunday, October1, 2023, at the Clarinda Regional Health Center, surrounded by her family.

Deloris was born on July 1, 1941, on a farm in rural Taylor County, IA to Leonard and Catherin (Murren) Calhoon.  She attended Hawleyville School for her primary education and then graduated from Clarinda High School. Deloris worked at various places throughout her life, including Super Value, Bethesda Care Center, Hy-Vee, Clarinda Mental Health, Wilson Foods, and Orscheln Farm and Home until her retirement.

Deloris and Gary Beery were united in marriage on February 7, 1959, in Fort Riley, Kansas.  They made their home in Shambaugh, IA.  The couple was blessed with three children, Deborah, Dalles, and Julia.

Deloris accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized at the Hawleyville Methodist Church.  She found solace and strength in her faith.  Deloris enjoyed shopping with her daughters, cooking and baking with her grandchildren, attending family gatherings, boating during the summer and reading and sewing during the winter months.  She was a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a good friend to all who knew and loved her.

Deloris was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Eddie Berkey and Nellie (Hamm) Calhoon, and maternal grandparents Oliver and Anna Maria Dorothea “Dora” (Schroeder) Murren; parents, Leonard and Catherin; sister Louise Flatley and husband Dennis; and brothers-in-law, Walker “Bill” Scott, Leland Shell, Gary Dennis, and Leland “Butch” Beery.

Deloris is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Gary Beery of Shambaugh; children, Deborah (David) Leu of Farragut, IA, Dalles (Donetta) Beery of Country Club, MO, and Julia (Randy) Ploeger of Clarinda, IA; grandchildren, Tyler Beery, Whitney Beery, Tamika Washington, Bry Reine, Ashley Ploeger, and Brandi Ploeger; great-grandchildren, Jaxton, Bre’el, Takyan, Tristin, Autumn, and Kees; siblings, Wanda Scott of Red Oak, IA, Alma Shell of Johnston, IA, Phyllis (Gary) Davison of Braddyville, IA, Sharon Dennis of Nokomis, FL, David (Della) Calhoon of Clarinda, Steven (Wanda) Calhoon, of Greeley, CO, and Joan (Jim) Card of Smithville, MO; sisters-in-law, Judith (Dick) Lovitt of Stanton, IA and Diana Beery of Villisca, IA along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
