Obituary of Bill Owen

William “Bill” Owen was born in Clarinda, Iowa to Herbert Frank and Dorothy Alice (Lehman) Owen on April 20, 1946.  He passed away on August 8, 2023, at Clarinda Regional Health Center at the age of 77. 

He attended Clarinda schools, graduating with the Class of 1964.  After graduation, he attended Clarinda Junior College and later Iowa Western Community College, earning an associate degree.  He went to Northwest Minneapolis Institute of Lab Technology, earning a degree as a Laboratory Technologist.  He began his work in Hamburg, Iowa, then Mt Ayr, Iowa and then Clarinda Municipal Hospital, working there for over 35 years.

On October 19, 1968, he married Iris Long, and they settled down and have lived in Clarinda, Iowa ever since.  In March 1972, they both joined the Order of The Easter Star in Clarinda and Bill was a grand officer in 2014. Bill and Iris are 50-year members of the Order of The Eastern Star, and Bill is a 56-year member of the Masonic Lodge.  They are also 50-year members of the Trinity Presbyterian Church, with Bill serving as Elder, Deacon, and Trustee.

Bill and Iris enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling to many states and meeting new people. One of Bills many hobbies was woodworking.  He loved making several things to give friends and wedding presents, recently making two cribbage boards.

He was preceded in death by his parents Herb and Alice Owen, sister Patricia (Clinton) Bothwell, brother Ralph Owen, and sister-in-law Carolyn Owen.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 54 years, Iris Owen, brother Paul (Kathy) Owen, sister-in-law Glenda Owen, brother-in-law Loren (Mary) Long as well as many nieces, nephews and many beloved friends.
