Ron Welchman, AKA Butch to family and friends, passed away in peace August 5, 2018. Funeral services will be held at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be held at the Wolfe Funeral Home Wednesday, August 8th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service Thursday morning. Interment will be at the Villisca Cemetery.
From the time Ron was born in Scott County, Iowa in 1942, he touched many lives. He had a remarkable work ethic and truly loved to work. There are many people living in beautiful homes that he built. Later he joined forces with Ron Young. They purchased heavy equipment and formed Welchman Construction. He later became sole owner and turned his business into a success. His work ethic and honesty was all the advertising he ever needed.
When he was not working, he liked to get out and enjoy life. He hunted, he fished, he traveled, and he flew airplanes and ultra-lights. He loved snowmobiling and boating. He loved the great outdoors and all it had to offer. He could find beauty in just about everything. He moved to Grant 21 years ago and he loved the peace and quiet. He never crested a hill that he did not marvel at how far he could see. He loved his family and always looked forward to family reunions. He loved his buddies and was always a faithful friend. He told terrible jokes and never got the punch line right, but we all laughed anyway. He was so easy to love.
Surviving Butch are his spouse, Shirley of Grant, son Dean (Shelly) and daughter Cory all of Blue Grass, Iowa; step-daughter Robin Johnson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; brother Bill of Blue Grass, Iowa; sisters Leilana Keeney of Eldridge, Iowa, and Pat Morgan of Davenport, Iowa as well as a host of loving family members and his good buddies who he treasured.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents John and Barbara (Eikam) Welchman, 4 brothers and 1 sister.
