Alpha Carolyn was born March 9, 1929 in Elmo to Frank and Murriel (Hutchison) Campbell. She graduated from Elmo High School and then married Charles Marvin Bloomfield. The couple had two sons: Scott and Brian. They farmed and had livestock outside of Elmo. She worked with the livestock, fed the farm helpers and anyone who was needing a meal. She played the organ at Elmo United Methodist Church for many years and also enjoyed the Women’s Auxiliary at the church. The church was a huge part of her life. Alpha passed away at her home on the farm near Elmo Friday, October 5, 2018 at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles; son Scott; brother William “Bill” (Connie) Campbell and her parents. Alpha is survived by son Brian of Elmo; sister Mary Ann and husband Bob Irvin of Farragut, IA; grandchildren David Bloomfield and wife Nathalia of Kansas City, MO and Tabitha Bloomfield of Burlington Jct. MO; great-grandchildren Haylee, Zachary, Dominik and Hunter; along with numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services for Alpha Bloomfield, 89 of Elmo, will be held 10 a.m. Friday, October 12 at Elmo United Methodist Church with interment at High Prairie Cemetery, Elmo. There will be open visitation Thursday noon until 6 p.m. at Walker-Merrick-Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel in Clarinda. Memorials are suggested to Family Choice to be determined later. Following the service the family will greet friends at a lunch to be held at the Methodist Church in Elmo. Walker-Merrick-Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel in Clarinda is providing arrangements.
