Obituary of Nina Sweeney

Nina Grace was born December 4, 1919 at Clarinda, Iowa to George Alfred and Grace (Rogers) Damewood. She graduated high school and soon joined her sister in the Chicago area finding work as a bookkeeper.

 

She met Lowell “Tom” Sweeney and they were married March 2, 1942.  Tom was a self-employed arborist and she was his bookkeeper. They lived in the Chicago area until retiring to her hometown in the mid 1990’s.

 

Nina enjoyed gardening, canning and baking.

 

Nina passed away at the age of 98 November 13, 2018 at the Clarinda Regional Health Center. 

 

She was preceded in death by her husband Tom in December 2000; Brothers Herman and Bruce Damewood; sisters Evelyn Friedel and Myrtle Riechart.

She is survived by her nephew Richard Elan and niece Mona Lee Smetter.

Funeral Services for Nina Sweeney, 98 of Clarinda, Iowa will be held at 11 am Friday, November 16, 2018 at Walker-Merrick-Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel in Clarinda, Iowa with an open visitation from noon to 5pm on Thursday, November 15, 2018. Memorials are donor choice.

Interment will be at Clarinda Cemetery. Services are provided by Walker-Merrick-Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel.
