Larry (Lawrence) W. Irvin

Born June 10, 1949, in Bisbee, AZ, died Jan 28, 2025, in Clarinda Iowa

Larry was passionate about two things, his family and his hunting.  He started hunting as a little boy with his father and uncles; a favorite spot for them was Rucker Canyon in the Chiricahua mountains in southern Arizona. He moved to Iowa in 2013 and thought he had moved to heaven because he could just go purchase a deer tag in the fall!  He quickly adapted to bow hunting instead of using a rifle.  Larry spoke to his son daily about hunting and what the deer were doing, or their favorite baseball team.  He loved his place in rural Clarinda and enjoyed riding his lawn mower and working in his yard. One of his greatest joys when his kids were growing up was watching them play baseball, and in recent years he got to enjoy his grandsons playing baseball in the summer and going hunting with them in the fall.

During the last 25 years of his life, Larry enjoyed many hunting trips to Mexico, Canada, Africa, and New Zealand, making friends in all of these countries and making wonderful memories.  He also became more involved with upland bird hunting and owned several wonderful setter dogs.  Moving from AZ to IA with 8 dogs was a different kind of adventure. The family also fostered many rescued English Setters, and he always enjoyed working with the foster dogs but hated seeing them leave.

After high school, Larry enlisted in the military and served 2 years during the Vietnam War.

Early in life, Larry started out following his father in a career in underground mining in Bisbee at the Copper Queen mine.  When it closed down, he became a driver for UPS, retiring after 26 years.  After moving to Iowa, he enjoyed working with local farmers and driving grain trucks in the fall.

He is survived by his wife Diann Dunwoody, son Jared and daughter-in-law Alisha Irvin of Clarinda, daughter Shannon Irvin and son L. Shane Irvin of Phoenix, AZ.  Grandsons Jace and Levi Irvin of Clarinda, and granddaughters Sydney and Hayden Irvin of Phoenix.  Sister Jennifer Waller of Inverness, FL, and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his sister Robyn Giacoletti.
