Russell passed away May 10, 2021, at George C Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, Iowa. He was born June 20, 1928, to William Glenn and Elizabeth Fern (Norton) Henning in Blanchard, Iowa. He was the third born of nine children: Betty, Jim, Russ, Virgil, Sally, Maryann, Carolyn, Pat, and Norma. After graduating from high school, he worked for a few years before joining the Army. Russell enlisted September 28, 1950, in Rockport Missouri, he served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in September 1952. He married Jane Hopkins, November 1976 and to their union had two girls Nikki was born November 1977, and Sarah two years later, November 1979. Russell or as many knew him Cotton, farmed for many years in Westboro area before moving to Coin. October 29, 1983, he married Marjorie Catherine Brush Harms at the Coin United Methodist Church and gained four stepdaughters, Nancy, Marcene, Joyce and Ardith and one stepson Gary. Russell and Marjorie made their life in Coin both working for the City of Coin. Marjorie as the city clerk and Russ as city maintenance worker. He is preceded in death by, his wife Marjorie, his parents and mother-in-law and father-in-law, brother Jim Henning, sister and brother-in-law Betty (Bob) Grattan; sisters Carolyn Blumenshine and Pat Kruse, stepdaughter Ardith Magnuson and step grandson Kyle Nelson along with brother-in-law Butch Mather and brother and sister-in-law Lloyd (Florence) Brush. Russell is survived by his daughters Nikki (Robert) Dierzen, and Sarah Dannenberg, stepdaughters Nancy (Jon) Jennings, Marcene (John) Nelson, Joyce (Mel) Nehring, stepson Gary (Rhoni) Harms and stepson-in-law Daryl Magnuson along with 6 grandchildren and 10 step-grandchildren, 26 step great-grandchildren and 3 step great-great grandchildren, brother Virgil (Sandy) Henning, sisters: Sally Perham, Maryann (Herb) Beggs, and Norma Mather, brothers-in-law Jack Kruse, Bob Blumenshine, along with many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
